Education
In the summer of 2023, Humanities Texas partnered with the National Archives and Records Administration and the National Archives Foundation to hold a webinar series on primary source pedagogy for social studies teachers in Texas.
The webinar series was an online professional development program for educators new to teaching or new to teaching with primary sources. This program focused on student-centered pedagogy to promote the integration of primary sources into classroom instruction.
Like all Humanities Texas teacher programs, the webinar series was content-based and teacher-centered, with an emphasis on teaching with primary sources and developing effective pedagogical strategies.
Functioning as a learning community, the two selected cohorts of teachers met for three sessions, submitting required assignments and activities in between. Educators who successfully completed the program requirements earned ten hours of CPE credit, a digital badge, and a $400 stipend.
The program was led by Charles Flanagan, outreach supervisor at the Center for Legislative Archives at the National Archives and Records Administration, and Valerie McVey, director of programs at the National Archives Foundation.
The webinar took place over Zoom on June 27, July 11, and July 25. The webinar schedule can be viewed here.
The webinars were made possible with major funding from the State of Texas with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
