On November 9, 2022, Humanities Texas held a webinar for social studies and English language arts teachers on the major speeches of Abraham Lincoln.
The webinar offered specific suggestions for teaching Lincoln’s most significant oratorical works—including his first and second inaugural addresses and the Gettysburg Address—focusing on their historical context and the rhetorical strategies deployed. The program considered these speeches’ role in Lincoln’s legacy and highlighted the most important takeaways for middle and high school students.
Like all Humanities Texas teacher programs, the webinar was content-based and teacher-centered, with an emphasis on developing effective pedagogical strategies.
Randall Fuller (University of Kansas) led the webinar.
The webinar took place over Zoom on November 9. The schedule is available here.
The webinar was made possible with major funding from the State of Texas with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
