On November 15, 2022, Chase Untermeyer, former United States ambassador to Qatar and immediate past chair of the Humanities Texas Board of Directors, will give an afternoon presentation on the remarkable career and strategic vision of Homer Lea, cousin of El Paso artist and writer Tom Lea.

Homer Lea, who was barred from joining the U.S. Army due to a physical disability, instead turned his energy and brainpower to Sun Yat-sen in overthrowing the Manchu Dynasty in China in 1911, only a year before Lea's early death. Beyond playing this dramatic role in history, Homer Lea wrote books of strategy that foresaw with fantastic accuracy the military moves Japan would make decades later to achieve mastery of the Asia-Pacific region.

The event will include an introduction by Adair Margo, founder of the Tom Lea Institute and former Humanities Texas board member.
