Education
On July 13, 2022, Humanities Texas held a one-day workshop at the Witte Museum for English language arts (ELA) teachers on strategies for teaching poetry at the secondary level.
The workshop provided multiple approaches for generating student interest in and understanding of poetry. Strategies and content aligned with the secondary-level English and language arts TEKS.
Like all Humanities Texas teacher programs, the institute emphasized close interaction with scholars and writers and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities.
The program faculty included Coleman Hutchison (The University of Texas at Austin), Naomi Shihab Nye (Texas State University), and Frances Treviño Santos (San Antonio ISD).
The workshop took place at the Witte Museum on July 13. For more information, view the program schedule here.
The institute was made possible with major funding from the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation and additional support from UTSA, the State of Texas, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
