Education
On June 14, 2022, Humanities Texas held a one-day workshop on the campus of The University of Texas at San Antonio for English language arts (ELA) teachers on teaching the works of William Shakespeare at the secondary level.
The institute focused on topics and skills central to the state's high school ELA curriculum. Faculty presentations focused on Shakespeare’s relevance to today’s teachers and students, Shakespeare’s global contexts, representations of Shakespeare on screen, and performance-based strategies for the classroom.
Like all Humanities Texas teacher programs, the institute emphasized close interaction with scholars and writers and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities.
The program faculty included Ariane Balizet (Texas Christian University), Laura Turchi (Arizona State University), Patricia García (The University of Texas Austin), and Kathryn Vomero Santos (Trinity University).
The workshop took place at the UTSA Downtown Campus. For more information, view the program schedule here.
The institute was made possible with major funding from the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation and additional support from UTSA, the State of Texas, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
