Texas Folklife will host a screening and discussion of their short documentary Santa Muerte: A Folk Saint in Texas. The film explores the emergence of the folk saint “La Santa Muerte” in Texas. Following the screening, scholars will discuss the saint’s cultural and religious significance. Participating scholars include R. Andrew Chesnut (Virginia Commonwealth University), Malgorzata Oleszkiewicz-Peralba (The University of Texas at San Antonio), and Michael D. Pfeifer (Bishop Emeritus of San Angelo).
