After returning home from WWII, Macario García made national news when he was denied service in a Texas café because of his Mexican heritage. This 1945 Houston Post article describes the physical confrontation that occurred between the café owner and García, who was later charged with assault and battery. The incident sparked national outrage regarding discrimination against Latino Americans.
