The American GI Forum held its first meeting on March 26, 1948, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Founded by Héctor P. García, the goal of the organization was to improve the treatment of all U.S. veterans following World War II and called for equal rights for Latino Americans. By 1958, the American GI Forum had groups in nineteen states. This map from an American GI Forum convention booklet shows states that were affiliated with the organization and the year that they organized.
