Chapters in Nineteenth-Century Texas History


On November 10, 2016, Humanities Texas held a workshop in Galveston on Texas history through the Civil War.

Curriculum

Topics addressed included Native Americans in Texas, the battles of the Texas Revolution, the Republic of Texas, and Texas in the Civil War.

The workshops emphasized close interaction with scholars, the examination of primary sources, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities. Content was aligned with the TEKS for Texas history. Teachers received books and other instructional materials and were trained in the examination and interpretation of primary sources.

Faculty

Workshop faculty included Mark A. Goldberg (University of Houston), Stephen L. Hardin (McMurry University), Andrew J. Torget (University of North Texas), and Robert Wooster (Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi).

Location and Schedule

The workshop took place at the Bryan Museum in Galveston. The  workshop overview details the program's schedule and participants.
