American Wars


On November 30, 2012, Humanities Texas and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) held a one-day workshop exploring American wars in conjunction with the museum’s exhibition WAR/PHOTOGRAPHY: Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath. The exhibition, organized by the MFAH, explores over 165 years of war through the art of photography. 

Curriculum

Topics addressed included the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Content was TEKS aligned.

The workshop emphasized close interaction with scholars, the examination of primary sources, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities. Teachers received books and other materials.

Workshop faculty included Robert M. Citino (the University of North Texas), David F. Crew (The University of Texas at Austin), Jeremi Suri (The University of Texas at Austin), and Jennifer L. Weber (the University of Kansas).
