Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst recently visited the Humanities Texas offices in the Byrne-Reed House in central Austin. The lieutenant governor received a tour of the building and a briefing on Humanities Texas programs from Executive Director Michael L. Gillette and Joseph R. Krier, chairman of the Humanities Texas board.
Dewhurst, a native of Houston, earned a B.A. degree from the University of Arizona, where he played basketball. He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the U.S. Department of State, and founded Falcon Seaboard, an energy and investments company, in 1981. He served as commissioner of the Texas General Land Office from 1999 to 2002, when he was elected lieutenant governor, and was appointed by Governor Rick Perry as chairman of the Governor's Task Force on Homeland Security.
