Texas Photographers from the Bill and Alice Wright Collection, the inaugural exhibition of the new Alice and Bill Wright Photography Gallery at the Grace Museum in Abilene, will be on view from September 26, 2009, through April 3, 2010. The exhibition features important works by Texas photographers both contemporary and historic, including Russell Lee, Ave Bonar, Frank Armstrong, Keith Carter, and E. O. Goldbeck.

The Wrights recently donated more than 400 photographs from their private collection to The Grace Museum, representing the largest single gift of works the museum has received. The collection includes over 200 original photographic prints by Ansel Adams, Henri-Cartier Bresson, and Marion Post Wolcott, among many others. "This exhibition gleaned from the new collection of photographs donated by the Wrights is exemplary of the depth and richness of the resources that The Grace now has to create important exhibitions of art photography," said Judy Deaton, Chief Curator at the Museum.

Bill Wright, who currently serves as Humanities Texas Board Alumni Co-Chair, served on our board from 1984 to 1989. He is a writer and a prolific photographer whose travels have taken him to Nepal, the Amazon, and the Galapagos Islands. A traveling exhibition of his work, People's Lives: A Celebration of the Human Spirit, is available through Humanities Texas. His wife, Alice, is also a talented photographer devoted to documenting the diverse cultural geography of our planet.

The gallery, located on the third floor of The Grace Museum, opened September 25. Along with the rest of The Grace Museum, it is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday. Admission is free Thursday evening after 5 p.m. More information is available from The Grace Museum's website.
