Governor Rick Perry has appointed two outstanding leaders to the Humanities Texas board: J. Bruce Bugg of San Antonio and Paula Peters of Dallas.

J. Bruce Bugg, Jr. is chairman and trustee of The Tobin Endowment, a private charitable foundation in San Antonio, and chairman and president of the Bexar County Performing Arts Center Foundation. He currently serves on the board of trustees of the McNay Art Museum, St. Mary's Hall, the Texas Research and Technology Foundation, and as a member of the board of directors of The Santa Fe Opera in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is former chairman of the board of governors of the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio. Mr. Bugg is chairman and CEO of three holding companies: Southwest Bancshares, Inc.; Bandera First State Bancshares, Inc.; and San Antonio Capital & Trust Co., L.L.C. He is also chairman and CEO of Argyle Investment Co., L.L.C., a private investment firm. Mr. Bugg is a member of the State Bar of Texas and holds J.D. and B.B.A. degrees from Southern Methodist University. He is married to Althea Bugg and has two sons, Jim and Tom.

Paula Peters is senior director of special initiatives for the Communities Foundation of Texas. She is director of the Uptown Dallas Improvement District, advisory director of the Friends of the Katy Trail, a member of the Audubon Texas board of directors, and a member of the Council of Foundations and the Dallas Assembly. She is former chair of Preservation Dallas, the Preservation Texas Trust Fund, the Dallas Arts District Foundation, the Friends of Fair Park, and Arts District Friends. Ms. Peters is past vice chair of Preservation Texas and a former Texas advisor of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She received a B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin and completed her M.A. in historic preservation from Columbia University School of Architecture.
