On April 1, 2025, Humanities Texas will hold "The Great Gatsby at 100," a webinar for Texas teachers on the history of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby as a classroom text. In commemoration of the centenary of its publication in April 1925, this interactive session will illuminate how the novel has been taught and interpreted from the 1950s to the present and introduce strategies and resources that engage students in an intergenerational discussion about Gatsby's central themes and motifs. Andrew Newman of Stony Brook University will lead the webinar.
The webinar is open to secondary-level humanities teachers in Texas schools. Priority consideration will be given to early-career teachers in low-performing schools and districts.
More information about this program is available in the Education section of the Humanities Texas website. Teachers interested in attending should submit an online application.
Participants will receive CPE credit and a wealth of curricular materials. CPE hours will be based on attendance and adjusted if a participant misses any portion of the program.
This program is made possible with major funding from the State of Texas with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
