The Amon G. Carter Foundation has awarded Humanities Texas $100,000 toward the restoration of the Byrne-Reed House. "The Carter Foundation recognizes the historical significance and potential opportunities the Byrne-Reed House offers Humanities Texas as its headquarters," said Foundation Executive Vice President John H. Robinson in a letter to Humanities Texas.
"We deeply appreciate the generous participation of one of the state's great philanthropic institutions, the Amon Carter Foundation," said Michael L. Gillette, Executive Director of Humanities Texas.
The grant, announced on December 12, 2008, will be used to match NEH's $1,000,000 challenge grant and brings the total of contributions and pledges to $3,742,858.
