Education
From July 12–16, 2021, Humanities Texas held an online institute on engaging students in the writing process and developing students’ fundamental writing and communication skills through dynamic, project-based assignments.
Content was aligned with the writing-focused English Language Arts and Reading TEKS. The training provided by the institute was applicable to teachers—both ELA and social studies—who include a substantial writing component in their classes.
Like all Humanities Texas programs, the institute was content-based and teacher-centered, with an emphasis on developing effective pedagogical strategies.
The program faculty included Amy Earhart (Texas A&M University), Marcela Fuentes (Texas A&M University), Amanda Licastro (University of Pennsylvania), Vimala Pasupathi (Hofstra University), and Susan Schorn (The University of Texas at Austin).
The institute schedule can be viewed here.
The institute was made possible with major funding from the State of Texas, with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
