Education
On October 8, 2024, Humanities Texas held a one-day workshop in Waco at Baylor University for social studies teachers on the history of the Gilded Age.
Content aligned with the TEKS. The workshop introduced major events of the Gilded Age and provided a broad framework for thinking about this specific historical period in terms of politics, economics, and art and visual culture.
Like all Humanities Texas programs, the workshop featured close interaction with scholars, the examination of primary sources and texts, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities. Teachers received books and other instructional materials.
The faculty included Elizabeth Bacon Eager (Southern Methodist University), Joseph Locke (University of North Texas), Robert Johnson (University of Illinois Chicago), and Andrea Turpin (Baylor University).
The workshop took place at the Armstrong Browning Library at Baylor University. The workshop schedule is available here.
The workshop was made possible with major funding from the State of Texas with ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
