This print is part of the series Washington and the American Republic, which was published in New York in 1870. The content duplicates an earlier three-volume work called Life of Washington. This image depicts George Washington addressing the Constitutional Convention held in Philadelphia in 1787 of which he was elected president. The significance of this event in American history has inspired many artists to visually record the proceedings. This print begins Chapter Six of Volume Three, which covers detailed events of the Convention.
