This print is part of the series Washington and the American Republic, which was published in New York in 1870. The content duplicates an earlier three-volume work called Life of Washington. This print of General Washington is the frontispiece of Volume Two and is based on the painting General George Washington at Trenton (1792; Yale University Art Gallery) by American artist John Trumbull.
