In a 1946 comic depicting the stories of Medal of Honor recipients, Macario García is shown fighting in the Battle of Hürtgen Forest in 1944. The Mexican-born Texan singlehandedly stormed two machine gun nests and captured four Nazi soldiers, despite suffering wounds. García was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1945, presented by President Harry Truman.
