Upon returning home to Sugar Land, Texas, after fighting in WWII, Macario García was honored by the Houston council of the League of United Latin American Citizens. This 1945 Houston Post article describes García’s heroic acts during the Battle of Hürtgen Forest in 1944, for which he received the Congressional Medal of Honor.
