Presentation

Ancient Christian, Jewish, and Muslim Women's Stories: Contemporary Wisdom and Compassion

Story-dramas coming from Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Syriac, Coptic, or Arabic texts from the nineteenth century B.C.E. to the ninth century C.E. bring insight, surprises, and laughter. While women have often been overlooked in formal religious leadership, their lives are windows to relationships with the divine. The presentation is based on Kirk's book, Women of Bible Lands: A Pilgrimage to Compassion and Wisdom (2004), which comes from a dozen years of research visits to the Middle East and friendships with Jewish, Christian, and Muslim women there.
