Armando C. Alonzo is an associate professor of history at Texas A&M University. He is currently researching the history of Texas and Northern Mexico, studying the rise of border society in the early nineteenth century.

Presentations

The Rise of a Border Society in Texas, 1700–1865
This presentation will focus on the colonial settlement of Texas and Northern Mexico and the interactions that occurred along the Texas-Mexico border. The objective will be to show how people used the Rio Grande as a bridge for trade, commerce, and immigration- a bridge that united people in spite of changes in sovereignty, showing that people functioned in a trans-national setting.

Hispanic Texas in the Twentieth Century
This presentation will assess the changing role of Hispanics in Texas history.  It will focus on their adaptation to a modern society and economy.  It will survey their rural roots and their urbanization, treating the struggles of the Mexican American and Chicano generation of leaders.
