Bruce Cole, chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, recently signed agreements with the National Council for Culture and the Arts and the National University of Mexico for future collaborations, including the exchange of scholars, the NEH's "Picturing America" initiative, and other programs. Humanities Texas board member Adair Margo, chairman of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, was among those accompanying Chairman Cole to Mexico City in June.

Among those in attendance were Sergio Vela, president of the National Council for Culture and the Arts; María Teresa Franco, director general of the National Institute of Fine Arts; Luz Elena Baños, deputy director general for cultural affairs of the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs; and various officers of the U.S. Embassy in Mexico and cultural officials from the Mexican government.
