Writing a letter of intent

Applicants for Humanities Texas major grants (e.g., community project grants, media project grants, Howell proposals) are asked to submit EITHER a draft application or a letter of intent at least one month prior to the application deadline.

The information contained in draft applications and letters of intent is for staff review only and will not be used in the final grant review. Humanities Texas staff will review the proposed project for 1.) eligibility under our grant guidelines and 2.) appropriateness of the requested grant amount. Staff will then contact you with comments, suggestions, and questions regarding the project.

Letters of intent should provide the following information:

  • Name of applicant organization
  • Name, address, email, and telephone number of contact person
  • Application deadline at which final proposal will be submitted
  • Project title
  • Project format
  • The intended audience(s)
  • Project dates
  • Estimated Humanities Texas grant request
  • Estimated total project cost
  • A brief description of the project, its humanities content, its participating scholars, and the part of the project that the Humanities Texas grant will support

Letters may be submitted by mail, fax or e-mail to:
